Hello! I’m a native Vermonter who loves to learn how things work. Lucky for you, that means I spend a lot of time thinking about stuff and only explain what’s necessary.

I went to school in Western Massachusetts and studied Technical Communications in tandem with an Information Technology minor. Would you believe me if I told you I originally went to school for Electrical Engineering?

During my freshman year, I was completing my second term, but barring the occasional coding project, was not enjoying the subject matter dominated by circuit design. While exploring options related to the tech field, I discovered a highly technical specialization within the English department that focused on information design and documentation. I was able to build off my previous credits and pivot to a focus on technical writing, while picking up relevant software design and coding experience. I’ll admit I also had a bit of a thing for Modern Poetry that maxed out my remaining elective credits.

Things like DITA, APIs, and Docs as Code came later with exposure and experience. I’ve been heavily involved in multiple conversions to and from DITA, ultimately favoring MarkDown (or other markup languages). I’ve run the gamut, from documenting an API by hand in lieu of generated output to modifying schema directly to comply with OpenAPI standards.

I’m an avid F1 racing fan and have been to the Canadian Grand Prix. McLaren supporter here, but I have a special place in my heart for Red Bull, Aston Martin, and of course, Haas.

I prefer sour beers to IPAs, although I’ll never skip Heady Topper if it’s on the menu.
